Read Disconnected, Disenfranchised, and Poor: Addressing Digital Inequality in America

While this seems more like a technology issue, it also brings up the issue of the lack of living wages. Things that may seem like luxuries, such as internet access, are increasingly a common necessity for gaining information and being an informed citizen. Doors of advancement should be held open, not slammed shut, for everyone to have the opportunity to walk through.

So after a long and bitter midterm election season we have results. As far as New York goes I am not surprised by any of the big races. Paladino took Chautauqua county 2-1 over Cuomo, but statewide took a beating. Angry rhetoric will only get you so far.

Nation-wide I am not surprised to see the Republicans take the House. Although I had hoped to see more faith in the system and the Democratic party, I am not surprised at the results.

We are a low-wage country

A sad fact. The attacks on the middle class and the general anti-labor sentiment found here have made earning a living wage very difficult. It has also made those who are fortunate enough to have decent paying jobs the scapegoat to distract us from the real issues.

Since dance was canceled tonight we got to go vote as a family. I’m such a civics geek, I’ve been looking forward to voting. :)

I was number 308 this evening. We’ll see how things turn out.
