Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.

Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behaviors. Keep your behaviors positive because your behaviors become your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.

If you never venture outside the box, you will probably not be creative. But if you never get inside the box, you will certainly be stupid.

First, Think Inside the Box

In honor of the UUCNC Medieval-Renaissance Auction and for all the time spent as part of the Medieval Reenactment Club (including when I learned that potatoes were not a part of medieval Europe) here is a site for How to Cook Medieval.

It’s National blog Posting Month again! We’ll see if I make it this year. :)

Here’s something interesting to read/watch:

The Enthusiasm Gap or He’s Just a President

I am not surprised by the attacks on Obama by the right, but what the hell democrats ease up on the guy. The fact that those on the left tend to have unrealistic expectations and demand instantaneous rather than incremental change is only going to hurt us at election time this year. While the teabaggers are overtaking the right and getting out the vote, the left seems to be giving a collective “meh” and writing off all of the accomplishments that have been made because the world didn’t instantly turn into a land of unicorns and rainbows.

I enjoy presenting, teaching, and other things public speaking related. This comes to me as a huge surprise since I had always considered myself a rather introverted person when I was younger. I don’t recall ever having taken Meyers-Briggs or anything, but I imagine I would have been an I. Interestingly enough, now I am a solid E.

I came across a blog post with a title that made me have to read it: The Advantages of a 2,500 Slide PowerPoint Deck

I don’t really like Power Point (in the general sense; if I were going to use a program of that type I would prefer to use Microsoft’s PowerPoint). I feel that too many presenters do not use the technology properly and you wind up with Death by PowerPoint. If I do use a projector I tend to prefer using live examples, websites or programs for example, and marking things up liberally with a dry-erase marker as I go along. Of course this only works if I can project onto a whiteboard, which unfortunately seems to be a difficult setup to find. So I can understand why you might have to use something like PowerPoint, even if you would rather not.

The premise brought up is intriguing to me. I might have to start collecting my super-deck and give this method a try.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone has tried something like this or what methods you enjoy using.

In my attempt to get back into blogging I have updated my theme and added some Facebook integration. My posts here will also be posted to my FB profile. Any post comments made here will also get pushed up to FB and any post comments made on FB will get pulled down to here. This is done using Wordbooker, which is a pretty neat plugin for WordPress. The only weird thing is that posts made on the blog are posted under my name on Facebook. It does include the name used here, but it can look confusing. I guess we’ll see what it looks like in the long run. Generally commenting has been very slow here, but perhaps including the FB community will encourage more discussions.

I have set up several Theme Days and will attempt to post those on a regular basis. If possible I will schedule those to be published on the appropriate day around 6:30 AM or PM (I’m not sure how my server deals with DST, so it might be 5:30 or 7:30 I guess).

The Theme Days I am considering are:

A Case of the Mondays – Posts dealing with various (mis)management/workplace issues. These may be comical, informational, or inspirational as the mood strikes me.

Tuesday Tunes – My second oldest theme day, these posts will feature songs as the mood strikes me.

Worker Wednesday – My third oldest theme day, these posts feature news on various labor issues including calls to action.

Tech Talk Thursday – Posts dealing with things of a technical nature. I will probably focus mainly on tips and tricks or news on things I use a lot.

Friday Free For All – Or the day I couldn’t think of a topic for. :)

Saturday Spirituality – Posts dealing with various things of a spiritual nature.

Sunday Fun – My oldest theme day, posts for some LOLs.

We’ll see how things go. :)
