This edition of Tuesday Tunes I thought I’d feature songs by artists that are fairly popular and not one hit wonders, but this is the only song I know from them. I am pretty open to all kinds of music and as a general rule will purchase entire albums and not just singles, but for some reason I’ve never explored any of the other songs from these artists.

  • Friday I’m In Love – The Cure
  • Just Can’t Get Enough – Depeche Mode
  • Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) – Eurythmics

This is funny, but true:

And a classic with Steve Martin:

Gas is $2.03/gallon today. The first time it has been over $2 for a while. Still better than $4 though. :)

Continuing on the idea of “theme days” for my posts I thought I would make Wednesday the day I would post an item of concern to the labor movement and working families.

Today I thought I would highlight class inequity and direct your attention to two articles, one at the state level and one at the federal level.

Why NYSUT, economists and most New Yorkers are calling for a more progressive income tax plan. I have written before about the need to restore New York’s progressive income tax structure and continue to feel strongly about this issue. How can our government expect working families to shoulder the financial burden of the state while the wealthy get a free pass? I feel that until Paterson puts the progressive tax plan on the table that there should be no negeotiations or concessions.

Obama caps executive pay tied to bailout money. This should have been done from the start. The fact that CEO compensation has grown exponentially while the workers have taken cuts needs to be rectified, but if a company needs a bailout that CEO should not be rewarded. Personally, I would like to see bailout CEO comensation capped at the average level of pay the everyday worker gets.

This edition of Tuesday Tunes I thought I’d focus on children’s songs. Specifically three artists that appeal to everyone in our family, Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes, and Tom Chapin.

  • Laurie Berkner – Bumble Bee (Buzz Buzz)
  • Laurie Berkner – Rocketship Run
  • Dan Zanes – Hello Hello
  • Dan Zanes – Smile
  • Tom Chapin – Puppy at the Pound / Walk the World Now
  • Tom Chapin – Not on the Test (OK, not a children’s song per se, but still a good one)

It looks like Staten Island Chuck isn’t the only one who doesn’t like Mayor Bloomberg.
