Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, passed away today. Story on Wired (link), discussion on Slashdot (link), and a memorial from Penny Arcade (link).
I haven’t played any form of RPG in a few years, although I do miss it. I remember when I first started role-playing. Gary Gygax was already a legend. In college I really got into gaming, even going to many many RPGA conventions. My favorite AD&D (2nd edition) memory is the game my friend Justin ran. We had a week where we were off from school. We all went to Justin’s house and from 8-5 Monday through Friday we gamed. We went for four hours, had an hour lunch, and then played for four more hours. That was so much fun and was a truly unique experience.
RIP Gary Gygax
