106 at the Primary

I was voter 106 this evening at my polling place to vote in the Primary. With 98% reporting it looks like Clinton and McCain will win with a landslide victory. (link)

The best thing I heard while waiting in line was from the person in front of me who was a registered Republican. They wanted to vote for a Democrat because “none of the Republicans are any good.” Unfortunately of course they had to vote for the party they are registered as.

For all the press that Obama has been getting I’m surprised he didn’t get more votes.

What I also found interesting was that you could still vote for candidates who have dropped out of the running. I see that Edwards still got some votes even though he dropped out.

Voter number 80 and Obama did win 13 states to Hillary’s 8, and 13 states was enough to build our country on. NY has 5 million registered Democrats who are eligible to vote in the primaries. Only 1.7 million voted yesterday and that was a 240% increase from the last primary!! The enemy of democracy is not totalitarianism, communism, fascism, or even George Bush… it’s apathy!

I agree with you that apathy is the biggest enemy to democracy. However, just showing up to vote isn’t enough. People need to educate themselves on the candidates before they vote.

Obama is doing quite well with the number of states won. However, since we are not a complete democracy it is not about states won (popular vote), but about the delegates won. In that respect Clinton holds a significant advantage.
