Fall Back

Did you remember to set your clocks back? We have now entered “Standard Time.” I don’t really understand Daylight Savings Time, and I certainly don’t understand how something that lasts less than half of the year can be considered “standard.”

It always gets dark early here in the winter, but by shifting back an hour it gets dark even earlier. That usually means that it is usually mostly dark when I leave for and return from work. Since I work in an office with no windows this usually means I have very limited access to sunlight in the winter which brings on the seasonal affective disorder like symptoms.

Time is such a bizarre concept anyway, I think we should just leave it alone instead of messing with it twice a year.

We acquired two of the magical Emerson clocks which magically set themselves (after a bit of tweaking). So our two main clocks changed their time automatically. Additionally, all my computers reset their time by themselves, as did our cell phone clocks. Thats about 85% of our clocks which reset themselves without intervention, so switching the time was a non-event. The problem with this is that because I didn’t actually have to do anything to shift the time, I have just been assuming that every clock is right. This has me very confused when I’m trying to see the football game an hour before it starts.

The worst offenders are the car clocks. I wish those auto-set. I always forget about them…
