The only thing I can think of after reading about how Apple has bricked modified iPhones with their new update (NY Times story link) is Nelson Muntz pointing his finger at all the Apple fan boys and saying “Ha Ha!” Actually that would be pretty funny if Apple included a little audio/video clip of that with their update software. :D

As funny as this situation is though, there is a serious part of it. Although Apple started off with the build your own crew they have become a closed system juggernaut clearly bent on protecting their small but growing market share. People want to think the best of Apple no matter what, just as they want to think the worst of Microsoft no matter what. The truth lies somewhere in the middle though. Microsoft does good things and Apple does bad things. Since everyone will bend over backwards to malign Microsoft I enjoy pointing out that Apple is not infallible and that they do things against their own customers more than people like to acknowledge.

Three years ago today Gillian was born. It’s hard to believe that she is 3 years old now. The time really has flown by. We were sitting at dinner tonight and I looked over and couldn’t believe how big she’s grown.

I uploaded pictures to my Flickr site, but here are a few:

In what is probably the best typo in a news story in a long time:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wanted to visit Ground Zero next week and lay a wrath there, but US authorities rejected his request because of the ongoing construction work and security reasons.

I can only assume they meant to type wreath, but I suppose you never know. ;)

Here’s a link to the article and to a screen shot in case they fix it.

We are in week 4 of classes. I overheard this gem from a student in the halls (I’ve taken the liberty of replacing the letter f with d, try to guess on which words ;) )

I don’t give a duck. I really don’t ducking care. I’m going to ducking fail out and I don’t ducking care.

So what happens if you take the intro to The Simpsons and give it a Star Wars theme? Rich Cando has the answer (link)

For some reason I cannot post about the turtle we found. Every time I try to post it errors. But I can post other things. Weird. Karen made a slide show which is linked from her blog and I put pictures on Flickr, so you can check those out. It was pretty cool though to find a turtle. :)

Students can get a legal copy of Microsoft’s Office Ultimate 2007 for $59.95 until April 30, 2008 though their Ultimate Steal promotion. This is a really good deal! I am a huge fan of Office 2007 and this is a great opportunity for students to get a legal copy.

Background info: Red, White & Blues Festival is this weekend.

Overheard in the Post Office:

Person 1: “So are you getting ready for the Blues?”

Person 2: “What Blues? That’s not the Blues! That’s just a bunch of rich white kids with guitars!”

So one of the “I should have realized that” moments I had when I was repairing my dryer was: Fire! Holy crap, there is a fire being lit in that thing! :D
I suppose it should be obvious that a gas dryer isn’t going to dry clothes by spraying gas on them or something. But it really took me by surprise when I saw it light up! No wonder they make a big deal out of cleaning the lint out and stuff. I guess I always thought of it more of an overheating problem not that there were actual flames that might ignite the lint… I am still stunned by the fact that there is a freaking fire directly underneath my clothes. No wonder they are always nice and toasty when they come out. ;)
