Saw V for Vendetta and The Chronicles of Narnia this past weekend. Both were excellent movies, but I really enjoyed V. If you haven’t seen them, they are both worth watching. I haven’t read either of the books (comic or novel) that these movies were based on so I can’t say how true they stayed to the story.

I took the day off yesterday to stay home with the girls. Karen had a presentation/class in the morning, so it was just me and the girls. Bella had been asking for days to go to Tim Hortons for donuts, so I told her we could go on Monday. Every day up until that day she asked me when she woke up, “Is it donut day today?” ^_^

We had a lot of fun that day, it was a really warm day out, so we even got to play outside. I’ll get some pictures up soon, figured I’d wait until after Halloween.

The time change has us all messed up. Stupid fall back. I’d rather it stayed light an hour later in the winter personally. Eventually our internal clocks will adjust themselves, but it’s a pain until then.

Our new camera came in the mail today! So I had to take some pictures to try it out.

We got a Kodak EasyShare C433. It’s pretty nice. It seems to have a few less features than our old Canon, but my initial thought is that it is a nice basic camera. With Halloween coming up I’m sure we’ll use it a lot.

I just read that CBGB’s has closed its doors. Wow. This weekend I was reading about how 3 of the 4 original Ramones are dead (and have been for a few years). Now the original club is gone. I remember listening to various punk and punk-influenced bands pretty much ever since I had a choice in what music I listened to. I still do, although to a lesser extent now that the girls are older. Maybe I’m just feeling nostalgic, I know people die and businesses close their doors, but it always seemed that CBGB’s would be there. Weird.

So the Thruway was closed from Dunkirk to Rochester today, 260,000 people without power. There was a massive snow storm last night into this morning. Here’s one news story about it. Ironically it was a nice day here in Fredonia, a little on the cold side for early October, but no snow. It is interesting how the weather can change so suddenly.

The funny thing about blogging, especially since I am not obsessively attached to the internet, is that when I have things to blog about I am too busy to actually blog about them. So here’s some things that happened recently in no particular order:

We recently entered this millenium, getting broadband internet access at home. Yay us!
Karen and the girls got to spend a few days with Karen’s grandparents who were visiting from Kentucky as well as with Karen’s best friend, Amy.
As I previously mentioned, Bella has been enjoying the Star Wars movies. The other day I learned she picked up a new phrase. While we were watching RotJ, the part when the Leia and Wicket are sitting on the log and someone shoots at them from the woods, Bella exclaimed “Who the HELL is shooting at them?” Perfect usage and inflection, but please don’t say that again, especially outside of the house. ^o^
When I was little my mom used to take me to the Catskill Game Farm. She’s wanted to take the girls as well and since yesterday was the last day they would be open since they are going out of business we drove down this weekend. We got in around dinner-time on Saturday, went to the game farm on Sunday, and drove home on Monday. We had a really good time. The girls loved seeing all the animals and feeding them. As an aside, to the restaurant owners in the area: If you don’t want to serve us because we are not locals don’t get annoyed when the girls start getting grumpy. A 2 hour wait for food isn’t acceptable to adults, but it is impossible for children to handle with grace. On the drive back we decided to take a little unplanned detour and visited the Herkimer Diamond Mine. That was fun too. We didn’t find too much, but we had fun digging around searching. Of course by the time we got home everyone was exhausted and out of sorts. So the last thing I needed was:
A few of our neighbors own dogs. One of them is in our yard a lot. I don’t like this. But last night I stepped in a pile of dog crap when I was unloading the car from our trip. Yuck! Of course I don’t know for sure which dog it was, so I feel weird talking to our neghbor about it. But next time I catch him in our yard I’ll stop what I’m doing to walk him back home so I can talk to them. Frustrating to end an enjoyable weekend on a sour note.
We went apple picking last Thursday. That was a lot fun too. We try to go every year since we like apples and the girls enjoy picking them. We got a bushel this year. I love this time of year, and I enjoy the time after apple picking, because I get to have yummy apples with my lunch and for snacks.

So it’s been very busy lately. Karen is presenting at a conference this weekend. We are looking forward to some down-time next week maybe? There’s always something going on. ^_^

I recently completed a fun project for Dr. Lawson. He had some word/name games he had created and he wanted them to be available through his website. So I did that and also added an interactive quiz portion as well. Check it out at: http://edwindlawson.com/worldofnames
